We purchase more than half of the food offered at the food bank to provide certain core items consistently; the rest is donated or rescued from grocery stores. We stock our shelves continually throughout the day, but availability of many items varies due to the inconsistent nature of donations.

We are always closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after it, and Christmas Day.
We are also closed the second Friday of each month for staff training.

Important things to know

On your first visit (and once a year after that), we will ask for some basic information.
This information is optional, but it really helps us plan our services. We never share your personal information unless you ask us to do so.
When you arrive for your first visit, you can ask any staff member or volunteer for a new customer form.
Please review our Community Agreement before your first visit.

We are a 2-minute walk from the 67 bus line stop at Roosevelt Way NE & NE 50th St and a 3-minute walk from the 67 bus line stop at 11th Ave NE & NE 50th St.
We are also about a 15-minute walk from the U-District light rail station.
Please don’t park in our neighbors’ parking spaces; this includes the lots at Scarecrow Video and Planned Parenthood. We know parking can be a challenge, but there are often spaces on many of the nearby streets.
Please don’t park in the bike lane; we need to keep that clear for safe travel.

Appointments are available every 10 minutes, from 10 minutes after opening to 10 minutes before closing. You can make an appointment for a specific shopping time up to 2 weeks in advance.
If you do not have an appointment, you can join the line to shop by adding your name to our daily waitlist. The waitlist for each day opens and closes at the same times that the U-District Pantry does and can be joined online or in-person using the tablet stand just outside the pantry.
We ask that you arrive no later than 30 minutes past your appointment time / the time when you reach the top of the waitlist.
We ask that you limit your shop to 20 minutes to help keep the waitlist moving.
Limited services like to go bags are available for up to 30 minutes after closing time.

Please don’t litter. Also, please leave space on the sidewalk for pedestrians and other customers.
Our volunteers can help find a bin for your trash or recyclables.
Everyone accessing our services and in our space (staff, volunteers, and customers) must follow the U-District Food Bank’s Community Agreement.

You may receive groceries once per week.
If you do not have stable access to refrigeration and cooking facilities, you may receive a go bag daily.

Masks are encouraged but not currently required.
