Current Volunteer Opportunities during COVID-19

Volunteers are helping to distribute food to our customers 6 days a week. Volunteers assist with packing premade non-perishable boxes, shopping for customers, sorting donations, restocking shelves and helping us maintain a clean and safe grocery store.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our online application form and we will get you back to you as soon as possible. We are grateful to our community members for their dedicated interest in supporting our operations. Thank you for your patience as work our way through the large number of applications we are receiving.  Please note that you may be asked to join a wait-list or substitute team due to social distancing guidelines and a limited number of volunteer spaces available. We hope to welcome new volunteers within a month of their application.

Individual Volunteers (ages 18+)

Did you know that we need more than 150 volunteers each week to keep our community well fed?

With just a 3 hour commitment each week, you will make an important difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Want to help out? Here’s how.

  1. Complete this brief volunteer interest form
  2. Schedule your first shift with Emily, our volunteer coordinator. She will reach out with more info after receiving your application.
  3. Begin your volunteering and help support our community.

Volunteers help us:

  • rescue food from local businesses,
  • unload food deliveries,
  • sort rescued food to ensure that only safe and healthy options are distributed,
  • ensure that our shelves remain full and well stocked during open hours of distribution,
  • pack up bags of groceries when our customers finish their shopping,
  • deliver food to homebound seniors so they can remain well nourished,
  • raise the funds we need to feed our community,
  • advocate for strong policies to affirm our community values and protect our neighbors struggling to meet their basic needs,
  • guide our strategic direction to ensure that we are responsible stewards and effectively meeting our community’s need for food, and
  • succeed at our mission and serve our community with dignity and respect.

Want to learn more or schedule your first shift? Please contact us by phone or complete this short online form to discuss our current volunteer needs and to determine what might work for you.

Youth Volunteers (ages 14-18)

Are you a middle or high school student wanting to volunteer?

At this time, we are only allowing youth ages 15-17 to volunteer accompanied by a parent or guardian. We cannot accommodate youth under the age of 15 and look forward to welcoming more youth volunteer opportunities as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Please give our Volunteer Coordinator a call at 206-523-7060 ext. 705 or send her an email at Volunteer@udistrictfoodbank.org to let her know of your interest.
